01 / OVERVIEWWhat is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation increases breast volume using implants and, in selected cases, fat transfer. It may be considered for naturally small breasts, volume loss after pregnancy or weight change, or asymmetry. The operation can increase fullness but does not reliably correct significant sagging on its own.
02 / YOUR ASSESSMENTChoosing the right plan
Your surgeon assesses chest width, breast tissue, skin quality, nipple position and the amount of coverage available over an implant. Implant size should be chosen to fit your anatomy rather than by cup size alone. If the breasts are significantly droopy, a breast lift may be discussed with or instead of augmentation.
03 / THE PROCEDUREImplant type, size and placement
Implants vary in size, profile and shape. Placement may be above or below the chest muscle depending on tissue thickness, implant characteristics and the surgeon’s plan. Incisions are commonly placed in the breast fold, around the areola or, less often, in another location. Your consultation should include the implant brand, dimensions, surface, expected position and why that choice suits you.
04 / RECOVERYRecovery after augmentation
Pressure, swelling, soreness and temporary tightness are common. A supportive bra may be recommended. Arm movement, lifting and exercise are gradually increased according to your surgeon’s instructions. Implants can initially sit high and settle over time, so early appearance is not the final result.
05 / SAFETYRisks and implant-related considerations
Possible complications include bleeding, infection, asymmetry, changes in sensation, implant displacement, visible rippling, capsular contracture and the need for future revision. Implants are medical devices and are not considered lifetime devices. Additional surgery may be needed at some point because of implant or tissue changes.
06 / EXPECTATIONSWhat can augmentation achieve?
The aim is a proportionate increase in breast volume and shape. Cleavage, symmetry and exact cup size cannot be guaranteed because the final appearance depends on chest shape, tissue coverage and healing. Weight change, pregnancy and ageing can alter the result.
07 / PLANNINGQuestions to ask before surgery
Ask which implant is proposed, its size and dimensions, where it will be placed, whether a lift is needed, what follow-up is required and what happens if revision becomes necessary later. Make sure you receive the implant documentation after surgery.
08 / QUESTIONSFrequently asked questions
Above or below the muscle?
Both can be appropriate. The decision depends on tissue thickness, implant choice, anatomy and the surgeon’s technique.
How is implant size chosen?
It is based on your chest dimensions, tissue quality, goals and the implant profile, not on a desired cup size alone.
Will implants lift sagging breasts?
They can add fullness, but significant sagging often requires a breast lift.
Do implants need to be replaced every ten years?
Not automatically, but implants are not lifetime devices and should be monitored. Revision may become necessary if a problem develops or your preferences change.
